History
In 2002 the project was awarded a best practice award from the U.K. Territorial Employment Pact (T.E.P.) and in 2003 achieved, with Hebburn Comprehensive School, Enterprise Pathfinder Status with 16 South Tyneside schools, a direct result of the Howard Davies Review published in 2002.
In September 2005, £60 million was made available to secondary schools in England to facilitate the delivery of enterprise education across the KS4 (Key Stage 4) curriculum. Through working group support, TEDCO was instrumental in helping schools in South Tyneside, and other parts of the region, to plan enterprising programmes of activity to help fulfil the recommended requirement for delivery of enterprise education.
In 2006, TEDCO’s Enterprise in Education project was invited to tender for, and was successfully awarded, membership of One NorthEast's 'Future Entrepreneurs' panel, set-up to develop a delivery model for support programmes to Primary, Secondary, (N.E.E.P Northern Way Enterprise Education Programme) and Further Education establishments across the region.
In September 2006, schools across the region were invited to submit Statements of Commitment and Intent to tender for an award from The Northern Way Enterprise Grant Fund. The fund, developed to drive forward an agenda that promotes the building of a more entrepreneurial culture, will provide significant investment into enterprise education in schools at KS3 level, matching the current entitlement from the DfES Standards Fund at KS4, up to £9,500. As an approved supplier, TEDCO will play a key role in supporting the development and delivery of these programmes in schools across the region.
In-Service training and professional development opportunities for teachers are an important aspect of our commitment to support schools, and teachers, to develop creative solutions to meet their enterprise teaching and learning requirements. With access to networks and businesses from a variety of different sectors, we can bring real added value and real-life relevance to subject curriculum work. As part of the Tyne and Wear Business Links Organisation's (TWEBLO) tender for membership of One Northeast's 'Influencing the Influencers' panel, TEDCO is also an approved supplier for the delivery of teacher training across Tyne and Wear.
